Credentials and Awards

I received my M.D. from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2004, as a member of the prestigious Combined Accelerated Program in Psychiatry (CAPP). I completed both my Adult Residency and Child and Adolescent Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital where I was elected Chief Resident from 2008-2009.

Baltimore Magazine has selected me as “Top Doctor” every year since 2016. The Baltimore Business Journal and Living Classrooms Foundation have recognized me as a “Rising Star.” I am also a member of the International Society for Sports Psychiatry, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).

Approach to Treatment & Services Offered

I work with kids, adolescents and young adults to provide diagnostic mental health evaluations and psychiatric treatment including psychoeducation, a supportive or cognitive behavioral approach to therapy and medication management. My areas of specialty include Anxiety, OCD, ADHD, Learning Differences, and Mood disorders including Depression.

I also closely with elite athletes, coaches, military personnel, first responders and competitive businesses to improve performance by identifying emotional barriers to success, managing psychological factors related to setbacks, teaching mental skills training and developing a competitive mindset.

Personal Life and Motivation

Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher and a coach. My experiences as a collegiate athlete taught me the concepts of hard work, discipline, confidence, humility, and teamwork. As a college student, I majored in psychology and was fascinated by the brain. I even spent a year working as a middle school teacher and high school wrestling coach where I learned how to create relationships, build trust, and motivate others. Through this process, I came to the realization that perhaps I was training myself to become a doctor all along, so I decided to apply to medical school and specialize in psychiatry. I ultimately achieved my childhood dream. Every single day, I get to teach and coach…just with an M.D.

I am also a loving husband, a proud father of two young boys, and a lifelong athlete who has competed in a variety of sports including running, CrossFit, Go Ruck, and various endurance challenges. I choose to do hard things with the purpose of better empathizing with and empower my patients to overcome their limitations. I believe that if I am going to teach it, I need to live it!

What Clients Are Saying…

Our child is doing incredible and most of those past struggles are distant memories (I think there may always be a “little” lingering anxiety). It wasn’t always easy, but here we are years later and enjoying some amazing successes on all fronts (social, academic, emotional).

Our experience with Dr. T was wonderful! His caring and warm hearted nature made our daughter feel comfortable from day one. Dr. T takes the time to listen and relate to his patients no matter what the age. Our daughter loved that he always made sure that she had a say in any decision we made.

I work for a nonprofit that focuses on the mental health of injured athletes. Dr. T has taken the time out of his busy schedule to meet with our Sidelined Support Group at various high schools. The athletes have loved his “talks” and have found him extremely helpful when dealing with the struggles of being injured.
