Welcome

Welcome to the practice of Jennifer Cooper, MS. In addition to being a part of Valley Integrative Psych (VIP), I am the Director of Upper School Learning Support at McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland.

About Jennifer Cooper

For more than 17 years I have worked with hundreds of children and parents to help them navigate the complex world of a student with learning differences. Prior to joining McDonogh, I was an educational consultant and executive function coach at Bowman Educational Services. I actually began my career as the Director of Learning and Development at Alex Brown in Baltimore.

I hold a master’s degree in Applied Behavioral Science from Johns Hopkins University and a second master’s degree in special education from St. Joseph’s University.

Approach to Educational Support

  • One in five children has learning and thinking differences*…and the action plan for support is as unique as the child.
  • Is your child underperforming in school?
  • Does your child have difficulty with reading and/or writing?
  • Does your child have challenges in math?
  • Does your child have difficulty remembering information?
  • Does your child struggle with paying attention?
  • Does your child find it hard to follow directions?
  • Does your child have problems staying organized?
  • Does your child have difficulty simultaneously listening and taking notes?
  • Does your child experience anxiousness when taking tests?
  • Does your child struggle socially?

* Learning differences can include dyslexia, dysgraphia, a disorder of written expression, dyscalculia, ADHD (with or without hyperactivity), executive dysfunction, anxiety, mood disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, major or serial concussions, speech language disorder, autism, non-verbal learning disorder, processing speed disorder, auditory processing disorder, debilitating migraines, and poor memory…and more.

The process of understanding your child’s specific set of learning challenges, identifying resources, and obtaining appropriate support and documentation can be daunting. The options and obstacles may be unclear to parents and Cooper Consulting was established to help families travel along unfamiliar and “bumpy” roads.

Personal Life & Motivation

I am married and am the mother of three daughters who have collectively and successfully dealt with dyslexia, ADHD, executive dysfunction, depression, OCD, PTSD-level anxiety, and debilitating concussions. My personal experiences have undoubtedly made me a stronger professional resource for families in need of guidance and assistance. My daughters graduated from the University of Maryland, Princeton University, and Stanford University and each has embarked on a rewarding career.
