Welcome
Dr. Schweizer believes therapy works best when you feel heard, understood, respected, and safe enough to speak honestly about what you’re experiencing without fear of judgment. You may be feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or depression, struggling with ADHD, trying to make sense of substance use, navigating a chronic medical condition, or simply feeling like life has become more difficult than you expected. Whatever brings you to therapy, Dr. Schweizer seeks to provide a supportive, collaborative environment where you can better understand what’s happening in your life, build on your strengths, and develop practical strategies that create meaningful, lasting change.
About Dr. Nicholas P. Schweizer
Dr. Schweizer is a licensed psychotherapist and addictions specialist with more than 20 years of clinical experience working in mental health, substance use treatment, and integrated behavioral health settings.
He currently serves as Program Manager for the Johns Hopkins AIDS Psychiatry Service within the Johns Hopkins Department of Psychiatry, where he oversees integrated psychiatric and substance use services for medically and psychiatrically complex patients.
Throughout his career, he has helped adolescents and adults navigate depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, substance use disorders, relationship concerns, chronic medical illness, complex family dynamics, and major life transitions.
Dr. Schweizer also has extensive experience working with adolescents and young adults attending independent schools throughout the Baltimore area. He has helped students and families address anxiety, ADHD, mood disorders, academic stress, learning differences, substance use concerns, and family-related challenges.
Approach to Therapy
No two people come to therapy with the same experiences, strengths, or goals. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, Dr. Schweizer tailors treatment to your individual needs.
His approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), supportive psychotherapy, Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed care, and relapse prevention strategies. Treatment is individualized to help you build on your strengths while working toward the goals that matter most to you.
Dr. Schweizer believes therapy should provide more than insight alone. Together, you’ll work to develop practical skills that improve emotional regulation, strengthen relationships, enhance communication, reduce stress, and help you navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence and resilience.
Whether this is your first experience with therapy or you’re returning after time away, Dr. Schweizer is committed to ensuring that you leave each session feeling understood, supported, and better equipped to face the challenges that brought you to therapy.
