Approach to Therapy
I am passionate about supporting individuals throughout their lifespan. I work with children, teenagers and adults, utilizing a safe, collaborative, and person-centered approach to my therapy. By integrating evidence-based practices such as Family Systems, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we will work together to build personal coping strategies. I view each person as their own unique individual who has their own set of needs and is the expert of themselves. I will be my client’s biggest advocate, while openly including immediate family members and additional providers they wish to involve to ensure a well-rounded therapeutic relationship.
In my person-centered approach, I see therapy as an avenue for my clients to explore and understand themselves at a deeper level. We are not working to “fix” any problems, but explore additional ways of thinking and behaving, all while utilizing the skills each client already brings to our sessions.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to anxiety, autism, depression, ADHD, behavioral issues, career indecision, managing general life stressors, and sports performance.
Personal and Life Motivation
Growing up, I was always on a sports field or running around my grandparent’s and parent’s farm with my cousins and siblings. As I grew up, I realized how much I loved working with children and teaching others about sports.
Throughout high school and college, I suffered several serious athletic injuries requiring extensive surgeries. Navigating these setbacks and lengthy recoveries taught me the importance of managing your mindset and attitude both on and off the field.
Throughout these combined experiences, I realized I was also listening and offering support to my teammates and players about their stressors and struggles, just as my therapist did for me. So, I decided to apply to the Counseling Psychology program at Towson to become a therapist. Now I get to do what I was doing for most of my life for fun, as a job and it is the most fulfilling career.
I am also a loving daughter, sister, and lifelong athlete. While I have hung up my competitive cleats, I now find the gym to be my happy place. I love working on the farm with my family on my off days and being in nature. You can also find me somewhere on the beach during the summer with a good book and listening to country music.
